New Soulslike fans should check out the game that started it all, as it is worth revisiting in 2025 and beyond. Bluepoint Games perfectly reimagined the original version of Demon’s Souls and gave it the remake it deserves. This project jumpstarted the modern Soulslike genre with the same mechanics, world design, structure, and more.

It does have the bonus of increasing a player’s magic defense, but that doesn’t come into play that much throughout the game. The Rune Sword does scale off dexterity, but the damage bonus isn’t enough to make it a truly hard-hitting weapon. This sword can easily help a player take down enemies, but not through the normal methods. The reason this weapon appears so early on the list is because of its poor attack strength.

It’s that gorgeous, modern, big-budget presentation that may cause a sense of friction with players who will experience Demon’s Souls for the first time, or will do so in the context of FromSoftware’s subsequent games. Games like Dark Souls refined the formula established by Demon’s Souls, while Bloodborne and Sekiro streamlined it further. Reverting to the hallowed ground of Demon’s Souls, and its experimental and quirky gameplay rules, may feel at odds with its looks. For example, the miners in Stonefang Tunnel are weak to piercing weapons like rapiers, and Phalanx is weak to fire (hence why you get so many firebombs in the game’s first level). I recommend carrying a shield at almost all times, in order to defend yourself and parry blows. If you’re playing as Royalty, you’ll start with a catalyst (a magic wand, basically), but if you didn’t and want to cast magic spells like fireballs, you’ll need to buy or find one.

An Early Magic Damage Weapon

Sometimes you might be at a disadvantage if you don’t have a useful item from another region, but there’s really no rule as to which stages must be tackled in which order throughout the bulk of the game. I intend to create a Guts build in this game, to compliment the work I did in Dark Souls Remastered. Demon’s Souls offers many language versions which can be freely changed in the settings – it applies both to the text language and the voiceover language. This will lead you in front of the big iron gate at the beginning of the level. In case you missed it earlier, head to the west section where you previously obtained the Cling Ring, and you will find two corpses by the unlocked iron gates to loot the following. Old Raggedy Robes, Old Raggedy Gloves, Old Raggedy Boots, and x2 Aged Spice on one body and x1 Jade Hair Ornament on the other.

It’s this flexibility that makes Demon’s Souls so distinctive among the Souls games. Right now, that’s the only platform to expect Demon’s Souls on–although there was a brief moment when it looked like we might get Demon’s Souls on PC as well.

After taking the first elevator, players will find a Fat Official guarding a balcony. Once the Official is killed, players can access the balcony and retrieve the Crushing Battle Axe +1. Since the Crushing Battle Axe is a Strength weapon, players should stick to a Strength build if they plan on upgrading it further. The Clever Rat’s Ring can be used to increase the weapon’s damage while the player’s HP is low. Dexterity is a stat that’s fairly common in most player builds, as, generally, those taking on a Souls-like game love a bit of movement and maneuverability.

Shortly after the announcement video, Wario64 tweeted the first released screenshots from the remake. The tweet can be found here and explains the screenshots are 4K Direct Feed. It was also pointed out that the description of the trailer mentions a “Fractured Mode”. While the meaning of Fractured Mode is purely speculation, it could be the implementation of unused content from PS3 where dying in Soul Form resulted in a permanent death. Big Mario dies to become little Mario and little Mario dies for good. Then a death in Soul form would result in a game over, deleting the character and a full reset.

The armor of fallen knights glints and shines in the sunlight as you traverse blood-spattered streets. I only ever encountered one spot where the framerate felt unstable, and it was on a bridge filled to the brim with enemies and explosions. Otherwise, the entire game can play out silky smooth, which makes the gameplay so enjoyable. Like other weapons on this list, the Broad Sword can be infused with magic or upgraded to be a magic weapon. Players who enjoy a good thrust attack will enjoy the Penetrating Sword, but that doesn’t make it great for the campaign.

Demon’s Souls Update 1005 Released Right On Time For Ps5 Pro’s Release

A lot of weapons can be obtained early on, more so if a player happens to have pre-ordered the game. As some fans discovered via a recent leak, Demon’s Souls musical score is also getting an overhaul. SC88 COM described the process of taking the game’s music “to the next level,” akin to the remake’s graphics upgrade.

Several gaming news sites have commented that because the Demon’s Souls Remake was released at the Future of Gaming event, it’s a PS5 exclusive. This may be true but before it’s confirmed as fact, more reputable sources are being pursued. As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator PanFro Games, some builds with the Meat Cleaver are incredibly broken because of how the weapon can continuously stagger enemies, preventing them from ever striking back. Featuring a design that looks inspired by Pyramid Head’s sword from the Silent Hill franchise, the Meat Cleaver packs a hefty punch in its oversized blade.

Set in a dark fantasy world, players take control of a hero who has journeyed to the fictional kingdom of Boletaria, which is being ravaged by a cursed fog that brings forth demons who feast on the souls of mortals. The game was described as a spiritual successor to the King’s Field series of games.
